Hi, I'm Shane
(The little guy there is my 5th, Luke)
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here.
You know, I'd love to tell you all about my life, family, and interests, but I suspect you have more important things to do.
But that’s the question, isn’t it: why are you here? If we’re being honest, it’s probably because you want to see if knowing me will benefit you.
I'd like to think the answer is a resounding "maybe".
Let me just be real direct on why I'm doing all of this.
One of my primary specialties is software development. I've been blessed to work with a few of the most difficult-to-get-into companies in the US for software development, which means I've played primary roles in developing website features that literally get used by millions of people on a weekly basis.
Now I don't tell you all of this to brag. Honest to God, I don't consider myself smarter, better connected, or more talented than anyone else.
Where I feel like I do separate myself from others is my ability to teach myself what I need to know, learn it quickly, and how to break down complex ideas into simple concepts.
How teaching guitar taught me everything
These skills, I believe, developed out of necessity. When I was 18, I was pretty good at guitar. So good that I decided to skip going to college initially and study at the Atlanta Institute of Music. I mean, I could play any Metallica solo in my sleep at the time, so how hard could it really be?
Well, let me tell you that it was difficult. I mean, REALLY difficult. I started with 30 people in my level (all older than me by at least 10 years) and literally graduated with ONE other person.
What got me through the MOUNTAIN of new concepts as quickly as I did was this new-found ability to break down complicated ideas.
After AIM, I began teaching professionally. It was working with hundreds of people at all different skill levels whose ages range from 3 to 80 that helped me understand the mind of a student better. When you understand how a student thinks and understands information, it's easier to explain new ideas to them.
One area these skills have especially helped me with is in entrepreneurship, particularly online. This is one of the areas I think I can especially help you with as well.
Why (and how) I want to help you
Before you get the wrong idea, let me be really clear about something. I'm not some iconic internet millionaire. I'm not writing this from a private island as I sip on a margarita.
To be honest, I'm writing this as I watch a mindless show on Netflix after a full day of work and taking four of my 5 kids (and their 3 adolescent neighbors) to the park for a few hours.
Yes, it's as intense as it sounds. But I do it because this matters to me.
What also matters to me is creating a sense of purpose in my life, and serving others by using the things I'm good at helps accomplish that.
I wanted to build an online income stream that can not only build the foundation for a life of abundance but also give me a sense that I'm helping others. The way I'm choosing to do that is by helping budding entrepreneurs get through the technical obstacles that distract from what they're most interested in focusing on: the content, the product, the service.
In my experience, the most frustrating times when I was setting up my own online business was being really excited about launching my site, but getting stuck with things like making sure my SMTP plugin was configured to work with GSuite properly.
Even when software is your life, this stuff can be difficult to work through.
What I'm committed to providing for you is high quality content that actually helps you in the configuration of your online business, as well as the configuration of your mentality, which will help you be the best version of yourself for your audience. Life gets more enjoyable as a result!
Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote an amazing essay called "Compensation". In it, he basically says that we get back what we put out.
Looking back on my own life, I've definitely found this to be true in basically all areas, for good and for bad.
If you've made it down here, I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better.
If you're willing to go a little further, I'll invite you to sign up for my mailing list. My goal is to provide tips and resources that will actually add value to you in your life as an online entrepreneur (particularly in the technical areas) and someone striving to build your version of an ideal life.
I wish the best of luck in everything you are setting out to do, find, and be, and if there's anything I can help you with, get in touch!
